Arte launches experimental HDR channel

EUROPE/LONDON BY ROBERT BRIEL   DECEMBER 10, 2019—Franco-German cultural channel Arte is launching the new experimental channel Arte HDR for a period of one year.   The new channel is developed in partnership with Philips, Technicolor, Ateme, and Cobalt.   In September 2018 the broadcaster carried out three weeks of tests, that made it possible to optimize the best technical parameters for format and encoding with a signal transmitted to the following specificities: 1080 p; 50fps (second images); SL-HDR2 (HDR10 + dynamic metadata) and 10-bit HEVC encoding at 8 Mb/s.   The channel will be available only on TV sets or HDR-compatible mobile phones.   Partners from the very beginning, Molotov.TV and Free have launched the new channel on Monday, December 9, 2019.
